You may already lube your chain regularly, but most bike chain lubes attract dirt to form an abrasive 'grinding paste' that reduces efficiency under power, can cause erratic shifting, and worst of all- speeds up wear of your chain & other drivetrain components. Let's not forget how expensive it is to replace chains, cassettes, chainrings, & derailleur pulleys!

Scottoiler Active Fluid is a specially formulated micro-emulsion consisting of mineral oils with surfactants & soaps, water, and additives designed to prevent corrosion, aluminum staining, foaming in storage, and bacterial growth. Together they form a unique lubricant and powerful anti-corrosive solution. When the water evaporates, an active, concentrated residue of the fluid remains in place serving as a very thin, clean, high strength lubricant and protective coating on all the chain surfaces.

Traditional chain lubes have for the most part fallen into two categories:

• Heavy, oil based lubes that attract gobs of dirt, creating a messy, abrasive 'grinding paste' that accelerates wear of the chain & sprockets. Cleaning this messy buildup is a tedious process which almost always requires the use of powerful degreasers (which can cause staining & fading of anodized aluminum finishes and in some cases harm plastic & rubber components such as derailleur pulleys & seals). These lubes are essentially 'dirt magnets' which do little or nothing to prolong the life of your chain & other expensive drivetrain components.
• 'Dry lubes' that offer minimal protection against wear and little or no protection against corrosion. The low film strength of many dry lubes does very little to reduce friction and prevent wear in high- load situations such as climbing & acceleration.

Scottoiler Active Fluid does not attract dirt, even when wet or applied heavily. It is designed to be easily cleaned up with ordinary water, yet becomes an insoluble, impenetrable anti-corrosive barrier when exposed to salt (eg. road salt, perspiration, etc.) Buildup over time is minimal (95% buildup free), and any minor residue on the chain, skin, or clothing can be washed away with plain water.

By using Active Fluid with the Active Fluid System, the need to clean your chain will be reduced by over 90-95%. In most cases, frequent, periodic applications of Active Fluid and occasionally hosing the chain down with water are all that are needed to keep your drivetrain clean. If the chain has been exposed to salt, the Active Fluid becomes insoluble and as a result a light cleaning agent (eg. mild dishwashing liquid) may be needed for thorough cleaning. That's it! If your bike has been ridden in the rain or through a stream crossing on the trail, then most likely your chain has already been cleaned during the ride!
